Morning All,
My driver's quarterlight is stuck.
From what I can see it seems to be jammed at bottom where I assume there is the bottom hinge.
The workshop manual is pretty light on details on how the quarter lights are fitted. Does anyone have a picture of the setup?
Thanks in advance.

Common fault. Here is a photo of the assembly, mine recently renovated.

Now the correct way up!
It is accessible with the door card removed, if fiddly. The white plastic piece is a ratchet with two lugs that run through holes in the frame bracket, these lugs break off in time but are now available from Mr Wadhams (not sold in pairs and they ARE handed). The spindle passes through the rubber seal and is tight so tends to jam, needs librication, as does the ratchet, thus the black grease. The assembly can be dismantled by undoing the locknut and nut to release the spring.

Cheers Sam that is super helpful.
That a nice weekend project when Wadhams are back open to supply the parts.
Thanks Alan

I'm thinking of replacing the quarter light rubber frame that Wadhams sells. Has anyone used one of these? If so, how hard are they to replace, and do they work well? Thanks

I have used the Coupe version and it fits perfectly. I had to repair corrosion on both frame and mounting brackets inside the door before removal of the old one and fitting the new one. The fitting and adjustment of the new one took about 10 mins

Fantastic! Thanks Phil, I'll put an order in with Wadhams.

Proper instructions then, as follows.
1. Undo the bottom nuts, remove spring and the white plastic ratchet.
2. The ratchet impinges on a roll-pin through the shaft. To remove rotate the quarterlight 90 degrees to better enable to hammer out the pin.
3. Remove the bracket at the top, two small screws on top of the door frame, then work the fitting out of the door frame.
4. The quarterlight is then ready for removal. Apply some rubber friendly lubricant to the lower shaft. Hold it partially open, ease the top away from the door frame, pull up the whole unit whilst wiggling it about for clearance, and remove from car.
5. Clean the hinge shaft (I would use parafin and a domestic metal pan cleaner). Smear red rubber grease onto shaft.
6, As all good workshop manuals say, reverse the above.
7. The roll-pin is tapped in unti it sits centrally accross the shaft. It forms the stop for the sprung plastic ratchet.
8. Note that the plastic ratchets from Wadhams come in pairs and are handed, so take careful note of the one you have removed to compare.

Hi Sam, Thanks for the detailed response. I stripped the door back to what you see in the photos (wood trim removed and screws attaching the chrome frame to the door frame removed) but after this point I am a bit lost. There is would appear to be no way to access and remove the quarterlight without removing the entire chrome frame for both the quarterlight and main window glass? Attachments:

The access to the lower end is shown in the photo. Only snag I can see is it being awkward to remove the roll pin but with the quarterlight turned to position it end on it may be possible to punch it out. Otherwise am afraid it is a matter of removing the frame (which is stainless steel, by the way). Sam

Thanks Sam
I am not sure the saloon doors have the access point.
It looks like it will be a case of removing the whole frame so a bigger project than planned and one requiring a bit more research.
This is my first project of pulling the old girl apart and I am still amazed how well built / over engineered they are especially in comparison to the old Alfas and VWs I have tinkered with in the past.

I just finished doing this job on my 3-litre Coup and was pleasantly surprised to see how nicely the rubber seals I bought from JR Wadhams fit and went in place. I needed to take off the door card, but no need to remove the window frame from the door. Nice end result! Attachments:

I'm waiting for the answer too. Nice to know how things are fitted on the coupe, but not very useful information for the owner of a saloon.

I recall that hinge rivits need drilling out and also some seized screws. It is academic as as far I know new ones are not available
