My car does not have the key codes stamped into the chassis plate on the nearside A-pillar because Rover stopped doing this in about 1971, I believe.
When I bought the car eighteen months ago it came with a collection of keys, two of which had codes stamped on them. I can open the boot, lock and unlock the driver's door and operate the ignition switch. But I cannot lock or unlock the passenger door or the glove box.
For the sake of correctness and originality I would like to have the locks and keys fitted to my car as it left the factory. Are records of the key codes for each car kept somewhere? If so I may be able to obtain the correct locks and keys for my car, which I would very much like to do.
I accept that this is rather OCD but I do like things right.
TIA S

TIA S The ignition key prefixed FR--- opens the front doors as well. The boot key prefixed FS--- locks the glove box. The key numbers are stamped on the lock cylinder in the handle/catch. Worn keys of the right FS/FR code usually open worn locks!

Thankyou, Phil. That's really helpful. I'll pull the locks out and have a look on the barrels for the numbers. That will be a good start.
Thankyou again. S
