I want to fit a stainless steel mesh to the radiator grill on my P5b instead of the rather faded and pitted vertical/horizontal square bars. The condition of the outer surround is good and shiny. Not sure if it is chrome or stainless (like the various door/wing mouldings) but the central vertical pillar that houses the Rover badge at its top, doesn't look like its chrome or stainless and appears to be thin and poorly painted in a sort of satin silver. Doesn't match the outer frame at all. It's not actually painted (or at least it hasn't been by me in my 40 years of ownership) - just looks like it's painted.
Is this chromable?

Hi Ricky - the central piece is made from an alloy that resembles aluminium, without being aluminium. It is a material that can develop pittings however I have seen many such centre pieces that are in fine cosmetic condition. Some people chrome the central piece - there is a very nice gentleman in England that do these (Mr. Najeeb Ahmed). It is a matter of taste whether you would like to chrome this section however if you do, you will stray from the original expression of the P5. Be certain that you will deviate from an original specimen to one that has been modified, for the P5 is an historic vehicle that purists will want to keep as close to original state as possible. You might wish to obtain an original grille centre piece that is in good original condition, for it is possible to take the grille apart and replace bad parts with nice ones. Same goes for the bars that comprise the grille. Good luck with your project

I had mine anodised with a satin finish - perfect as original.

Thanks for the advice. Just seen that JRW has some ally ones in stock but I think I'll go for the anodising route.
Now I have the grill out, also notice that each of the little c section bars that run across the grill are each riveted on with tiny rivets, so will be a pain to do myself. Anyone know of a firm that will convert the grill from standard to stainless steel mesh?
