I seek advice on cleaning the fuel system from what appears to be zinc oxide. The jets on the SU's were consistently sticking to the point I had to tap one out with a punch. There was evident of tar on the plastic housing on the jet and white powder on the jet, jet bearing, needle and the input side of fuel filter papers. On removing the fuel tank and fuel level sensor unit i found the following: - - a coating of white powder over the entire inner surface of the tank including the filler tube. - no evidence of tar. - some small areas of rust. - fuel level sender shaft jammed. Note: I had to use a two pound hammer and narrow sharp pointed chisel to remove the sensor locking ring due to paint between the lower face of the locking ring and sensor To restore the tank i propose to have it cleaned/de-rusted by REDISTRIP, and seal with PPG Aerospace (available Bankstown Aerodrome). I have used this successfully on my RR Silver Dawn which still had pin holes after Mig welding the obvious holes. It appears i can clean the white powder from all parts of the SU's with acetone. The queries that remain are : - 1. How to clean the fuel lines ? 2. The engine was run with a refurbished mechanical fuel pump fitted with 25mm valves and delivering 4.5 psi for only about 30 minutes just prior to noticing the jammed jet mentioned above. Further running of the engine was ceased at this point 3. Should i have any concern about the engine (e.g. valves sticking) prior to starting after the above fuel tank refurbishment, cleaning the fuel lines ?, and fitting a new fuel filter ?
I would welcome any advice. LloydGM, P5B Coupe. Sydney.

If you are concerned about the fuel lines replace them. The Nylon will be 50+ years old anyway. 8mm or 5/16" is the size.
The pump appears OK but an electric one is the best option for reliability and prevention of vaporisation once the system has been flushed well by a spell of road running.
Replace the filter anyway.
Is an AED fitted?
