Hi,
My wiper motor failed earlier in the year and despite some new brushes etc, I couldn't revive it. I know you can get them reconditioned, but I wanted to look for a better option.
I ended up using a Lucas 14w wiper motor brought from a surplus site, it had a 140 degree sweep which is pretty close to the original. I could've modified the Rover toothed cable that drives the arms, but I went with a universal Lucas one which I cut to length. The Rover one would've required the drive end to be filed down and I wanted a way back in case the 14w option didn't work.
I also used a Lucas wiper switch and there are enough 'Rover' wires that you can connect it all up such that you get the two speed function. I used a couple of wiring diagrams from motoring sites to do this as the 14w motor is pretty common.
The motor itself was mounted using the Rover wiper motor bracket and some spare metal strap I had. It runs well and is quiet.
The ignition switch fell apart the other day and I was able to replace it with a generic Lucas marine/tractor ignition switch that I found in the spare parts shelf.
Hopefully this will help anyone with a broken wiper motor or ignition switch knowing that these parts can work.
Simon
