Dear Members Because my searches in the forum with „Car phone“, „Mobile Devices“ or a combination with „Government“ added, did either present none or up to 24 pages ..., I decided to start an own, separate thread and inquiry. It is already quite some time, since I do go again into this topic, trying to find information about mobile phone equipment built into and used in, I guess, mainly P5B-models (official use). But unfortunately I could not really find any certain and real info. despite long and deep googeling apart from the fact, that in these days, car phones consisted of transmitter-receiver unit (somewhere hidden, mainly in the boot) with antenna, control unit with handset, either CB-style microphone with additional loudspeaker or telephone (passenger-compartment). I came across Pye Telecommunications Ltd., Cambridge, which seem to have been a strong competitor in the UK in the 50 – late 70ies (Westminster Series / Whitehall?). I would be grateful if anyone could share some light into this matter especially - make and type of car phones (1968 – ca. 1973 / onwards?) used in P5B
- how they were installed (in / under dashboard, on camshaft-tunnel, in door?)
- possible sources where to find one (well aware, that these do not work anymore nowadays due to the missing phone-network. But nevertheless would, complete and in good condition, be a perfect accessory)
Any hint whatsover is appreciated! Best regards, many thanks and happy rovering (when it is not too hot ....) Pete & the elephant
