Hello, on the Castrol sticker that was on my engine it's written 0.85 l of 10w30 to lubricate the overdrive. I've been able to empty it but dont see where I have to fill it now. Even on the Workshop manual drawing, I can't locate it. Someone can explain ? Thanks

A great thank you to all of you who answered my question and helped me solve my probem...
NO! Seriously no one is able to explain why there are two différent kind off oil in the gearbox and the overdrive and no cap to fill it ?
Thanks a lot

Only later overdrives had separate oil supplies because sharing the thicker gearbox oil caused occasionally delayed engagement in cold weather until the oil warmed up. I have not experienced any problems with our 1961 P4 which has EP90 in both. This is approx. equal to 20w/50 multigrade that Rover later recommended for P4s and P5s which were the same unit
I am not aware that even lighter grade oils were used in later overdrives and in any event mixing would like occur as the seals degraded. Furthermore separate oil supplies are likely to be better as the overdrive components may be more sensitive to metal swarf form gear box cogs?
I have not studied the WSM as to where the separate oil fillers are - may be just level plugs?
Hope this helps?

You need to pull up the carpet over the transmission tunnel just in front of the gear shift lever. There is a dipstick to measure the level in the overdrive unit and to fill it from. Attachments:Untitled.pages (459.62 KB)

Thanks a lot to both of you, actually, here is what I found when I took of the carpet and the metal sheet that whas hiding the visit hole. There is just a bolt that is closing the operating plunger (see attachments).
Probably, as Phil said, my late export 2.6 liters MK1 share the same oil with gearbox and overdrive, so here comes the crucial question : what kind of oil ? I previously put 70w-90 for gearbox but I must say that changing gears is allways kind of a suspens episode... Perhaps I should uses 20w/50 as Phil said...

I would say the gearbox shares the same oil as the overdrive in the Mk1. A good quality EP90 GL4 should be OK as would a good quality 20w/50. To key point is are you having any problems with what you are using now? PS - I do not think a 10w/30 oil is heavy enough. 20w/50 and EP90 are near enough the same viscosity when the transmission is warmed up
