The rubber on my fuel cap is gone. On a MK2 (with the chrome fuel cap) the rubber is a half rubber ball, placed on a spring. A former owner tried to repair it, but not very well. With liquid rubber I have made a repair but I really need a replacement. Wadhams doesn't have it. Any ideas?

This has cropped up before - try SEARCH . The seal arrangements on the P5 chrome cap were unsuccessful even new. the MK2 version was better and P5B was quite good but not perfect after 30+ years never mind 60+

I searched this forum - but I can't find useful threads here. The Jaguar XK150 has a more or less similar rubber seal, but can't find if the dimensions are right for the Rover.

Thanks to Tonys - I have ordered a rubber, complete even with de foam inlay on eBbay. May take some time to get to my house - it has to cross the channel. Attachments:

I wondered why the old rubber on my gas cap was so thin and soft. Tried to repair it, but not with a satisfactory result. Now, with the quite hard insert it all makes sense. A spring in the fuel cap provides sufficient pressure, the rubber does not have to yield to fit properly to the filler tube.
