Jaguar front suspension mocked up against P5 subframe. The subframe has had all factory brackets and suspension mounts cut off. Also the centre crossmember was removed so the jaguar rack could be mounted. Attachments:

The jaguar mounting points can be used if some brackets are made to adapt to rover subframe. The jaguar subframe has not been cut or modified at all. The longitudinal rails of the rover subframe have not been modified or notched. The mounting points for the anti roll bar on the rover subframe can be sec for the jaguar bar

Track is wider than rover but looks like it will be okay. Ride height doesn’t look incorrect. Note, tyres on the jaguar wheels are too small in outside diameter for a P5. Attachments:

The biggest issue seems to be angle of the universal joints for the steering. Notice the factory P5 steering column coming through the firewall. The intermediate shaft from the column to the pinion is close to vertical Attachments:

I admire your work. But the question rises: why? I would expect the live axle of the Rover to be the most important factor for the limitations in roadholding and comfort.

This type of conversion where a Jaguar front suspension, power steering rack (Toyota Celica) and Lexus V8 has been expertly fitted to a P5B in OZ by NODSMODS (Troy Donahue) and his son. FYI here's a link I wrote up a number of years ago. roverp5.proboards.com/thread/11157/nods-modsThere is a more comprehensive link by my former ISP that still retains the text but the images no longer present.

Thanks for the link. I’ve read about this conversion in the past. I definitely don’t have the fabrication skills to perform that kind of work. Also, you need to be an expert in suspension and steering when changing things such as narrowing crossmember 80mm, using wider wheels with less offset(I’m assuming otherwise there’s no need to narrow 80mm) retrofitting and mounting a rack from another vehicle. The probability of introducing bump steer and altering the toe out on turns is great. I think it’s better to retrofit the suspension and steering without modification. I’d be interested in knowing how the steering column and shaft were connected in NODSMODS car. Thanks, Josh

Here's a partial restore of the original thread on Nodsmods that I wrote up. I've managed to sort out a method to restore the images that disappeared when I changed ISPs. I'll update the remaining images of Neale's work in the next few days and reply to any queries you may have. Link below. P5B Coupe, Lexus V8, Jaguar front suspension, Tilt column steering assembly, Power rack & pinion steering, A/C and Remote dual circuit brake booster. Note: The dual circuit brake booster; where and how it is mounted and driven, is a copy of the unit in my P5 MK3 hybrid (P76 V8 powered) coupe. roverp5.proboards.com/thread/6160/nods-mods

Drivers side exhaust has sufficient clearance. The exhaust can run between the rover subframe rail the steering pinion. Oil filter is too close to intermediate steering shaft. I’ve got another oil filter housing that is a different angle and angles the filter towards the block rather than being vertical. If that still doesn’t work a remote filter will be needed Attachments:

Enough clearance on the passenger side for exhaust and starter motor. Exhaust manifolds are off a 2nd gen Firebird. Attachments:

Sump spaced 18mm off the jaguar rack and crossmember. The entire sump sits above the jaguar rack and crossmember rather than the back of the sump sitting behind the crossmember. The engine is sitting higher and further forward than it would in an xj6 or Pontiac but is in the same location fore and aft and lower than the v8 in a P5B. The middle crossmember of the rover subframe has been moved rearwards about 200mm. Removal of transmission on its own would be impossible. Removal of engine and transmission together may not be possible. To remove transmission the entire subframe might need to be removed. Attachments:

Quick update. I spoke to a NSW engineer regarding the modifications. He is ok with the modifications in theory but will come to view the car in a few weeks. He seems ok with moving the middle rover crossmember rearwards and perhaps even making it bolt in. To pass engineering the car will require lap/sash retractable belts, dual circuit brakes and collapsible steering column. Has anyone ever installed a collapsible column in their P5?
