Yep, that long since someone posted here.
I've lived in USA since 1984 and have never seen a Rover P5 here. Maybe that's why I decided on the P5 instead of the p6. Anyway, if you live here in the US let's hear from you.
Once I bring my car here from Europe I'll be touring and it would be good to meet a few enthusiasts along the way.
I'm a bit under the gun right now for my upcoming trip to Italy. The car is in the midst of a bare metal restoration and it looks like we're behind schedule. I've padded the completion date for three weeks but am still unsure the deadline will be met. I get photo updates from time to time but with six weeks to go things are not yet going back together.

What a cool project ! Will be great if you post something of the bare metal respray etc. so we can see how deep you go and what you've learned ... which can be helpful for the rest of us. Why do this job in Italy ? I need a respray on my P5B Saloon 1969 too; no rust and no corrections to the steel to be done save for a 2 mm deep dent on the front wing.

Hi. I am in Western Canada and can appreciate the absence of P5s. In my area when I bought my P5 (13 years ago), there were seven examples, including mine. Now there are only two! I drive the car as often as I can and the mild-ish west coast weather allows me to drive it during the winter (providing no snow or salt on the roads). The P5 is a black 1962 Mk 1A; the exterior was restored in 2006 but the interior is still original. The only problem at the moment is that I need a replacement front windshield (mine was cracked on Thursday by a rock thrown up by a passing dump truck). Finding one is like searching for a hen's teeth. I'm going to search the Forum for any strings on windshields but I'll need some time because I'm relatively new to being a Forum user. I'm expecting a visit from a Hagerty adjuster to look at the broken windshield. I've had a 'general' quote from a Florida custom glass company for $4,000.00 U.S. (about $5,300.00 Canadian) so will pass that on to the adjuster.
Walter.

Hello Walter - the glass companies are often able to source a suitable glass and have it brought to them, for installation in your car.
Beware that the glass is a very small part of the total cost - that's because it is so tricky to fit the glass within the rubber, that it takes a skilled glass-guy many hours to fix it. Then, it is to refit the stainless steel trim which is time consuming too.
Make sure you get assurance that the new install will be leak free. The windshield often leak in the corners, so test carefully when you collect the car after works complete.
Consider also to replace the rubber seal. Since the fitting of windshield is hard, it is sensible to consider replacing the rubber "while we're in there"
Out of curiosity; is it a manual with / without overdrive or an automatic that you have ?

There is one on eBay, if you can persuade him to ship it to you:
I also believe Pilkinton will make you one.
