I'm overhauling my 3ltr Mk3 and I need some bits and bobs, where's the best place to buy a complete head gasket set, carb overhaul kit, sump gasket.
Also can any of you recommend a good quality heat resistant paint for the block? When I overhauled my 2.6 some years ago I used some stuff from the local parts shop which started to peel off a year and a half later, I want something that's going to last.
Also I'm going to get the head skimmed, I take it there are no special considerations and I'd like to have the flywheel skimmed, I'm in Lowestoft, Suffolk can anybody recommend an engineer and give me some idea of a price I should expect to pay.
Cheers Adam

J.R. Wadhams for your gaskets, not sure about the carb though. Probably best to go to Burlen for that.

Yeah, I'll give those two a try. I wonder how much the top rocker shaft is going to cost me.

I know my printout is out of date now, but a new rocker shaft will set you back a minimum £125.00 plus vat plus carriage.

£125 MIN , I suppose it's not as bad as bits for some new cars. ;D Been struggling with the water pump this afternoon, it didn't want to come off because the bolts had rusted into the aluminium casting, all barr 3 the heads sheered off as soon as you put a spanner too them, but 1 sheered of flush with the block. Anyhow, got it off, chased the threads with a new tap and on the last one it broke (typical). Fun day tomorrow trying to remove broken tap!

I was suprised at the price myself, especially when the V8 shaft costs £20 and you need two of them.
It might be worth thinking about replacing ordinary steel bolts etc with stainless steel ones. Also make sure you use plenty of copper grease on the threads, it does make it much easier if you want to get them out again.
Best of luck trying to get a tap out as these are hardened steel.

Hi, Check John Wearing, although he doesn't do so many P5 parts now he may be able to assist. Burlen are efficient and the price is in line with other companies. If you buy the re-biuld kit you also need to buy the needle (not included) and have someone ream out the body 9.5mm for the spindle new bushes. I have unused rocker cover gaskets (bought a job lot last year) if you're interested. £4.75 each including 2nd class postage. Good to have another MK3 person around Rgds ;D
