The twin petrol pump in the boot of my 3 litre won't tick, the previous owner told me he often had to remove it and fiddle with it to get it working. The next time it would not work again.
I'd like to sort this out once and for all and I believe the options open to me are: 1) Service the pump- anyone know how? 2) Repace the mechanical points with electrical setup from Burlen fuel systems- anyone else done this? There only seems to be one kit to do this on their website but not sure if it fits twin pumps. 3) Replace the whole thing with an electrical twin unit from Burlen. ANyone done this? Which one do I need?
Advice on above much appreciated. thanks Roy

It might be worth investigating the contacts, if they are sticking on then a good clean of these may cure the fault.
If you never use the reserve tank why not by-pass that side of the pump and just have one electric pump.

The previous owner always used to clean the contacts but they tended to stick again. Might consider converting the insides to electric with a Burlen Kit.
Sods law says that if I use a single pump I will run out of fuel and need the reserve! Plus I'd prefer to keep it original like it is now...

i replaced mine with a fuel pump from a 1985 subaru leone and it works fine and only cost $10 at the wreckers.

I just serviced mine with a JRW kit (c1980) and the pump has worked perfectly since. It is good practice to use the reserve pump occasionally to keep it 'ticking over'!

Rebuilding one end of the pump was the second job I did on my 3 litre; first was to dismantle the throttle linkage when it stuck open on the way home from collecting it. Overhaul kit came from Burlen and it took me a couple of hours but I had to use the original brass armature rollers cleaned up because the nylon ones in the kit wouldn't fit without jamming it completely. No explanation from Burlen when I asked!
