Does anyone out there know which is the type number of the Girling front brake calipers? I have the Rover parts list which gives an eight digit Girling part number but I am sure there must be a shorter "colloquial" identifier, as used for other makes; e.g. the calipers fitted to the Triumph Spitfire is called a "Type 14". The general concensus is that the only other make are the late P4 Rovers from 1959-1964 fitted with the same disk brakes - Try SEARCH to see the comments

As the P5 braking system was copied from the P4 system originally with twin servo assisted trailing shoe drum brakes - the front suspension set up is unique and this demanded special calipers to avoid extensive retooling of the front supension stub axle.
Its probable that its a derivative of a standard system as very few cars had disks in the late 50's early 60's but which one I do not know. It could be deduced by comparison of the sysems available then I suppose.
The part numbers for P5 and P5B's are different although they look identical and are fully interchangeable. Early piston were different in dust cover securing designes but agian are interchangeable
These calipers is one part which never seems to turn up as NOS
Why is this so crucial?
