Hi,
I've just joined (still waiting for confirmation actually but eager to take part in the discussions.) I'm looking for my first - and hopefully only - P5B coupe. Questions is what's the best route? I want a dark colour (no two-tones) and owing to my almost total lack of mechanical skills I need a mint one or close to it. I've always bought cars from dealers but feel this mightn't be best for this one.
I also saw the discussion about ageing membership. I'm 43 and have always loved this car. saw Alexei Sayle driving his black coupe in London years ago and thought it looked so great.
Cheers!
Andy

Andy
Click on the link tot eh club site and select the buyers guide. This will give you important info on what to look for. Then give Dave Lee (Cars for sale Officer) a call as he has the latest listing. He will be able to point you in the right direction.

Welcome - make sure you look at as many as possible and DONOT buy the first you see!
Take someone along who knows about these cars and read this forum!
These cars must have regular servicing and so line up someone to look after it for you and it will give years of pleasure.
Old cars do not mean old prices - do not begrudge paying out for spares its never been better to get them.
I count over 40 as middle aged

Thanks for the advice Phil. If and when I find one I am planning to see if there's a club rep who can help me. I'd also be looking for an enthusiastic mechanic with Rover knowledge down here (Wilts) for the servicing. Any members out there who can advise, I'd be really grateful for a steer.
But over 40 as middle aged? Aaagh! Never!!

Hi Andy welcome to the club. I regularly travel through Salisbury, and often in either my 3litre coupe or 3.5 saloon. Yesterday I went through twice in the day, once in the morning and again returning in the evening. I have passed another 3.5 on the A354 coming into Salisbury from Blandford but I don't know if that car is from there or not. I know there are a couple of P5's in Yeovil, and one at least in Sherbourne, seven in Weymouth, and quite a few along the coast including Poole, Bournemouth and Southampton. I see you don't want a two tone coupe, that's unusual as most people want that type. Finding a monotone one may take a little longer. If you want a dark colour you would be limited to Black, Admiralty Blue, Arden Green, or Bordeaux Red. If you want any information you a welcome to e-mail me. You can do this by going into my profile and clicking on the e-mail address. Next month is the Restoration Show at Shepton Mallet, (Bath and West showground) it might worth a visit as I'm sure there will be at least one P5 Rover there.

Hi John,
Good to hear from you. What colour's your P5 - I'll look out for you. As to my colour preference put it down to newbie inexperience! I'd seen (or thought I had) pics of cars with different colours above and below the trim line - that's what I didn't want. The silver birch roof plus Arden Green is actually what I have asked Dave Green to find/restore for me.

Hi Andy, if you have seen cars where they are two tone from the waist line they are more than likely to be 3 litre saloons. The 3 litre coupes were usually single tone. 3.5 litre saloons were for the most part only available in single tone. 3.5 litre coupes although single tone in standard form, most of them are in dual tone which was an optional extra. Your preference of Arden Green/Silver Birch is a very nice colour combination. Even better if it has Buckskin interior. You can see one of my 3.5 saloons if you go to the Picture Gallery of members cars and look for the following titles, Rover confrontation; Rover 1, 4x4 0: Two Weymouth wedding cars; and 3 Amigos in Dorchester. This final pic shows 3 of the 6 or so Rovers currently residing in Weymouth. My current cars are 3 litre coupe in Juniper Green (which I haven't put pics of on members cars), 3.5 litre saloon in Zircon Blue, and another 3.5 litre saloon in Admiralty Blue.
