Even though my car is six months away, I am already thinking about names for it. I had bikes for a couple of years in my mid-thirties (until a b*****d Peugeot driver knocked me off a Triumph Trident 900 in central London) and gave them names - usually girls. I noticed Glenn has the Duchess and I've seen a couple of others, so I wondered how many other members give their cars names and what generally the sex is/how they arrived at the name ? Andy

For nine months my wife carries our youngest child and during that time she was to be called 'Molly' and on the day she was born my wife changed the name to 'Sophie'.Now she Is 7 years old and I can't imagine her with any other name but when I came by my Rover 2 years ago, I named her 'Molly'.At first I was thinking along male terms but then It hit me(just as In Shrek, when Donkey discovers the dragon Is a she)that my car was a she.My wife went through the pain of birth so she got to name our daughter and I have all the skint knuckles etc so I get to name the car.I have even had the name embroidered on the under blanket!

Nice under-hood thingy. The name especially. Is it lined with similar material as the original?
Anyway, I couldn't imagine calling my rover anything other than a masculine name. If it had one. I've always hated the French, but it seems to me that some things are inherently feminine or masculine, and I'm pretty sure the car I drive is not a chicks' car.
How about that for a rascist and sexist post all in one?!

Not sure about the material but mine was made by Martin Reed's wife(rep for London)for a very reasonable price and fitted under the bonnet webs no bother.By the way, does anyone know why the bonnet webs are different lengths?
