I sat down tonight, and switched on to BBC 4 to watch the programme about the demise of the Rover Company. It was very interesting but it left me wanting more. I would have been interested in David Bache and other designers but I realise the scheduling would not of had enough time to cover everything. Plenty of coverage on the P5(B) though and some nice input by James Taylor, Quentin Wilson.

I saw it too - great things these chatboards! The P5 clearly was the best car they made and certainly makes you feel good about your own obsession! Really terrible seeing the Indian-made Tata getting a Rover badge.

A bit of info on The Long Goodbye. Our Bristol rep. was contacted by BBC Bristol for info on Rover. He took his P5 along to them and his James Taylor book. He also took people involved with the program for a ride. They contacted him again and asked how could they contact James Taylor and he told them James was the clubs historian (listed with reps. and committee) and how to contact him. The rest is history as they say. Well done Dave Bull.

Quentin Wilson did not display a great knowledge of the subject in the programme and much was left out but still it was better than many on the subject. It is one of the great disasters of British business that Rover got scared to the point of merger and then swallowed up in the Leyland mire. Had it carried on with the Range Rover and P8 who knows where it might have ended up?
