Hi As some of you know i have inherited my late fathers P5.
Upon taking it out for the first time in the dark I have problems with the light/switches and also the choke light/temp guage.
Can anyone recommend where I could get this looked at, at a sensibe price? i dont want to get ripped off!
I live in Norwich Norfolk.
thanks, Bridge

Hi Brigitte, My father and I have both had our P5Bs tuned by a local Norfolk auto tuner. I'm not sure that he's exactly what you need but it's well worth a phone call as he'll come out to you. He's very familiar with Rovers and specialises in classic cars. Dad and I are very pleased with what he's done on our cars. He's in Mulbarton, Norfolk. Try - Mobiletuning on 01508 578198/07774 608273. His name is RG Archer. As I said he's really a mobile tuner with all the diagnostic equipment on his van but if he can't help he might know a man who can. Best of luck, Richard

Brigitte, these problems don't sound like anything more serious than loose or dirty connections to me. Probably just lack of use & age. Don't you know anyone who might be handy enough to check it out for you? A friend or relative perhaps. It would be a shame to fork out for an electrical engineer if that's all that's wrong. R.

Hi Mike, I will def be giving you a call soon, if you could come to me in Salhouse I will happily reinburse you any petrol expenses. This is what I have found not working proberly. Side Lights ok Headlights only work on Main Beam Cold start light comes on when temp guage goes up No dash lights It looks as though at some point the dash has been out as it is a tiny bit loose not much. We have just had all the chrome re done, so this is the last thing to do. The MOT is middle of June so i think the lights will need sorting by then. Speak to you soon, Brigitte.

Nothing sounds too serious and should be able to be sorted out - the Cold start switch may have failed - replacing it may be problematic as the 3 little nuts seize and will break off the studs if heavy handed. New switches are obtainable if needed but its not essential

If the cold start light comes on as the engine temp rises, I thought that was how it was supposed to work. Pull out the choke to start when cold, the light doesn't come on, then as the temp rises, the light comes on and warns you the engine is warm and you still have the choke out.

Yes you are correct I misread it! It will be the switch on the choke cable that is out of adjustment ie dislodged or missing (if the choke is not out) otherwiser its OK!
