Has anyone been able to repair these window mechanisms once removed from the door. I have both front ones gone at the moment and dont fancy paying £170.00 plus to replace them. The bit thats worn seem's to be housed in its own casing making it harder to understand the workings. Any guidance much appreciated. Searched the old site but no facts on repairing just removal. Thanks Sean.l???TEXT

They are a very poor design and not up to the weight and balance of the glass.
I have heard of people making a new cog and parts can be swapped over to make up a good one from several unworn parts usually taken from the back winders which are hardly used

I fixed mine some years ago (P5b Coupe 73) The gear cog-1/4 had come away from the arms. I used pop-rivits to replace the spot weld. It's held for the last 10 years (summer use only - 30,000miles? )

All you have to do is get the back ones and drill out the spot welds/rivets that hold the winder case to the arms, do the same on the front and then re rivet the good one in its place, you might want to put a spot of weld on it as well for strength. This is usually what happens to reconditioned ones...
