Being a subscriber to "Practical Classics" car magazine, I thought I would do my bit for the assigned day, 23 Apr 06 and take my P5b out. I reckon I did about 60 miles or so but was amazed in not seeing one other solitary classic on the road. I like to think I did the parts that others could not reach.

We did about 65 - 70 miles and met up with another group of P5's. On our way there we saw a RR Slver Shadow, several Austins (post war probably) a Yank tank, Jaguar 420, Spitfire and some MG's. We met two new owners of P5's and welcomed them in the fold. Probably saw more Classics than usual plus blew a few cobwebs away.
Cheers

Bournemouth westwards was awash with classic cars. The Quay to Quay attracted 150 vehicles in all. A splendid sight. There were two P5B coupes and one P5 Saloon together with a P3. I would have taken one of mine but this year it was the turn of the Humber Sceptre Mk3. Next year it's the turn of the P5 Coupe. I must admit all the drivers out in their euroboxes entered in to the spirit of the day either waving, flashing, or hooting at us. Perhaps there is a lack of multi-mark clubs around Southampton that amounted to the reason. I know of at least two clubs in Bournemouth and Poole, and the same again in Weymouth. All in all I think the day was a success, let's hope it was the same across the country, and becomes a regular feature in the calender.

We waved and flashed out headlights at other classics but Rolls Royce drivers NEVER, EVER flash or wave back (in my experience) Cheers Adrian PS Saw a Humber Estate car on the back of a lorry too! Looked like the Humber was a resto project.

We went to down to eastbourne and got waves of everyone EXCEPT the MG Midget driver. Only saw about 5 cars though and 3 of them were pre-war jobs who must have had a meet in the area. Maybe it will take a few years to get going but somehow I think being on a Monday next yearnot many people will bother. better to have a FIXED day, say the 3rd Sunday in April that way everyone knows where they stand.

If anyone thinks it's a good idea to make this an annual event, even if it doesn't fall on the correct day (weekdays), i would strongly suggest you e-mail the FBHVC and put in your requests. The more that do this the more likely it will become an annual event in the calendar. Don't delay, do it while the subject is hot in everyones minds.!!

Forgive the question but what is the FBHVC and do you have a link to them?
