Hi all !
Can't help it ! I have to share my joy as I managed to get my Jag 240 through the much feared danish MoT and in this way managed to get it licenced ! I have been working on this for 2 years (in between), so much joy in the little home !!
Though the P5B and the Jag were competitors at the time new, I feel that it is 2 very different cars. When I drive the Rover, peace enters my mind and everything goes down in speed. In the Jag, I automatically use the gears and the throttle fully and feel a need to drive just that little harder to get the most of it. I have difficulties in understanding if these 2 cars could possible have the same audience in the 60'ties.
Though I now will share the limited classic-milage between the 2 cars, I still love the Rover just as much, and I will continue to take part in this list as much as my skills allow me. The Jag has a full length Webasto sunroof fitted in '69 that need attention. As some of you have Rovers with the same roof, I wondered if anyone can help with advise in re-conditioning these Webasto's ??

I don't think a Webasto roof refurbishment is a very easy DIY job Frank. I think you may have to get the services of a specialist on this. It's nice to be able to compare the Jag with the Rover. Although rivals, they were I think, aimed at two different markets, the Jag being more of a drivers car.

The Jags of the 30's-60's have the racy spiv/criminal image about them and are far removed from the gentile staid image of the Rover. There is no comparison with the two whatsover just horses for courses

During the petrol crisis of the early 1970s my aunt bought a Mk 2 Jaguar 3.8 automatic for £600. A year or so later I bought my coupe. The difference between the two cars is amazing. The Rover is far superior quality, better to drive and much easier to work on, but the curves of the Jag made it one of the best looking cars of the 60s and I would imagine having one of each makes a very nice collection. My aunt is now 84 and the Jag that she still drives has been her only car.

I agree with you in these view. After more miles in the Jag it is clear that the Rover is by no comparison the superior of the 2. And after 2 years under the Jag it is also clear that the Rover is better build and easier to work on. - But no doubt the Jags in generel have had more money invested in them as the years have passed, because of the higher value. And I must admit that there is a feeling when driving in the Jag, that cant be expressed. Especially when the right foot gets a little heavier :-) - To LAGAIN : Give your aunt my deepest respect !!
