I've just received a temperature sender from JRW and it's the screw in brass type with a flat blade contact on the exposed end. However, I wasn't expecting to see this as the temperature sender wire on the top of the engine meets a triangular plate with 3 screws in it. Is the temperature sender underneath this plate with only the blade connector exposed? And if so, can I remove the plate to expose the sender without breaking a water seal? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard.

That's teh old manual cold start switch that operates the orange warning light. It was dispensed with in early 1969 when the AED was introduced and a blanking plate substituted. DO not connect to the gauge

The cold start warning light's correct name is the "Otter" switch (from the name of the manufacturer) and suppliments another switch underneath the Cold Start cable inside the car. This device was used on all Post war Rover cars and Land Rovers until the early 1970's. Your car must have just missed having an AED fitted or its not got its original engine or manifold?

Hi Phil Hope you are well. My coupe has the AED (now converted to manual choke operation) and has a 'factory' blanking plate fitted where the Otter switch would have been. See you soon. Adrian

Quite well thankyou - yours is correct then - however I have also coverted my 72 saloon to manual Cold Start and also fitted otter switch to operate waring light on console as early models
