Hello all, I haven't posted since 2003, how time flies...unlike my 1972 Bordeaux Red Saloon. It's stuck at home in the garage, just a clicking sound when I try ignition. I suspect starter motor.
Anyway I now discover that my classic car policy with Ecclesiastical, via Peter Best, only covers break down over 1 mile from home.
Any advice on my options, I am mechanically inept.
1) Push it 1 mile. Wife is pregnant and would get tired quickly! 2) Local mobile repair (North Essex), any operators? 3) Hire flat bed to garage (they do not have recovery service) 4) Join AA/RAC/Other?? and use home start.
Any advice appreciated.

clicking tends to be a knackered or drain battery. I would try charging or changing first.
If your policy wont cover then I would suggest you find a friend who has a membership for any vehicle and they can call them out to your house.

If you join up to a club with homestart, you will have to wait a while before calling them out, if they suspect the fault was there before you joined they won't be interested. They also won't want to know if the car is not on the road at the moment (i.e. untaxed) If you use a local garage even if they don't have their own recovery vehicle, they must know someone who has who they could recommend. I agree charging the battery is a good place to begin. If you can find someone who works mobile use them to get it started and then take it to a garage you trust to get it checked over.

Thankypo for the help. It was indeed the battery. My only excuse for the schoolboy error, was that lights etc were working. However a nice new, charged battery had it firing up instantly. I guess I'll have to break down over one mile from home in future. BTW i was very impresses by how quickly battery acid can eat the velour from car mats. An error really of the kindergarten category.
