There was about 9 P5's, quite a few P6's and a couple of P4's. Was a good day, weather good turned out nice, sun burnt again! I managed to pick up a few bargins from the auto jumble, a good turn out of cars in general. And to top a good off England won.

After last years debarcle, (2 and half hours queue to get in and I was there at 7.30) I gave it a miss and probably won't bother again. Club events are better organised and no garden furniture sellers. Glad to hear you found some Automjumble bargains, Ebay seems to have killed that of somewhat.

I only went to Bromley a couple of times and then I thought 'why should I pay £6 to park my P5 with a lot of other P5s, who have also paid £6 and then the organisers of the show charge members of the public to go and look at them' Think about it. The organisers must be making a huge profit.

Can we get the so called profits into perspective. Take Powderham Castle show, this is in a beautiful setting alongside the river Exe and is a two day event. The club has been charged £48,000 for the use of three fields, one for the show itself, one for those who have to stay for the two days, and one for the public parking. This charge is going up to £60,000 for next year. All the profits will go to the Devon Air Ambulance this year, and by the time all the expenses are out of the way there won't be a lot left for the charity. In other words twelve months hard work for very little gain. It would take only one of the days to be rained off, and you are at a loss straight away. The people who rent out these fields for our enjoyment are the ones who pocket the profits, and they are getting greedy enough to stop a lot of these shows taking place in the future. In addition to this there are prohibitive costs to be added to the bill for Health and Safety regulations, and new ones keep coming in every year. Unfortunately today everything is money orientated, and it's killing off events that are put on for ours and the publics enjoyment of the classic scene.

Sorry but if you are spending up-wards of £60000 to hire a few fields to raise money for a charity it is just not cost effective, it also shows a huge amount of greed from the landowner. Surely it must be possible to find a different venue with an owner sympathetic to the charity. In fact with agriculture in such a poor state you could probably buy enough land ! I have worked with a local charity for the last 25 years and our most profitable time was when we had a chief executive who spent most Mondays lunching and socializing with members of the local Rotary club. When the telephone system went wrong a call to the post office brought the required parts, when a well known department store re carpeted their stores our offices had the old stuff and so it went on , no doubt if we had had a car show he would have arranged to have a prime site for nothing, and that is the art of running a successful charity. We were able to provide many services that have since been reduced. Proving that it is not what you know but who. As far as I know Bromley does not support any charity and this weekend I am off to Bentley Wildfowl where the charge is £2

I agree about how expensive the pageant is £8 this year, but where can you wonder around thousands of classics in one day for that money? As for traffic into the site, one make parking not the public parking, what traffic? arrived there at 8.30am drove straight in? The bonus of the day was the auto jumble, I bought 2 front door 1/4 replacment panels, 2 rear 1/2 door replacment panels and all four door bottoms with rubber channel welded on for £75, and from what I have read else where on this forum they are very hard to get hold of now? So £8 for me was money well spent.
I still wonder why a show that attracts so many visitors that the p5 club does not have a stand there?

That was a damned good find Andy. I agree well worth the entrance fee, if you can come up with those sort of goodies.

I think I must agree with Ianagain, whilst I am pleased you found some bargains Andy overall the Pageant has been shifting year on year to more 'modern' classics with 80's cars becoming more and more common. Whilst this may be part of me and the cars i love growing older, hence younger people with different tastes coming along, I personally don't want to attend them and can understand why the P5 Club would not want to attend. The effort and expenses are not reimbursed despite huge organiser profits and quite frankly the show is now little more than a bazaar or sunday market. For the record I was on a Club stand when it took me 2 and half hours to get in, maybe this year nobody bothered hence your entrance was quicker. As to the charity show comment, if your paying huge sums to landowners for their site can you not find a few quid for exhibitors? Happy to bring my car for free if everyone contributes in the same public spirited attitude but it's asking a lot of my good nature to fork out thousands to a 'rich' landowner and not find a few quid for my petrol money, you can't have it both ways.
