Whilst having a cuppa in the Ace Cafe this morning i noticed a booklet by B.P.offering a new fuel called ULTIMATE 102. It's been designed for high performance cars and from what i read is developed from formula 1 racing.
Only a few forecourts have this for sale at present (probably because it's really expensive) but it did have a answers page and it mentioned classic cars etc, all is well in using the 102 octain fuel you just need to re tune to get the best out of it. If any members fill up with this maybe they can let us all know how good it is. Big Kev.

That's interesting Kev, as two of my local BP garages have sold out of the Ulimate, and have locks on the pumps. So maybe they are going to stock this fuel. Seeing as it's Classic County I wouldn't be suprised. I must keep a look out.

The high octane pumps were all locked out in Truro this lunchtime too but all the rest were ok. I will keep a lookout.

Seems like tetraboost is still the only way to go for value for money and engine preservation!

Both P5 and P5B's should run well on satndard unleaded with only ingnition timing retarded a little so why waste money?

As far as I understand it , there is still the problem of valve seat recession unless you use later heads and wind the timing right back! At least with tetraboost you put the lead back and up the octane rating giving the 'proper' p5 driving experience!

In Australia there has been some anger about a certain fuel supplier . This was in relation to a hi octane premium price fuel. This fuel turns out to have ethanol to boost the octane but has been given a fancy name. Another supplier sells an octane boosted fuel, but is cheaper than normal unleaded as ethanol is cheaper. It is interesting that on the BP link one of their statements is that it is high performance BIO-COMPONENT to help the environment. Does that mean ETHANOL ?. The general view here is that ethanol in older cars is is a questionable thing to do.
