Hand flatting wet with 1200 W/d down to 1600 w/d is not too bad followed by G3 and G10 Farecla cutting compound. If you have enough paint thinkness a mirror finish to Celly or 1/2 Hour synthetic is easily possible and will get rid of a multitude of faults.
The same technique can be used with 2 packs and Coach enamals but its much harder - even brush marks can be reoved this way but not dust speckling if its too deeply embedded

I wouldn't say it was hard work, just time consuming........and messy. Wouldn't even entertain the idea of compounding by hand..............you will want to die after doing one wing and the bonnet.
The only time its hard work is if you are using the wrong materials and equipment. you also need some idea of what you are doing.
I think this polisher will be good for waxing and light cutting of faded paint.............but I don't think it will be powerful enough to compound new paint. i wouldn't be adverse to trying one though !
My other thoughts are that being a DA machine, it will be uncontrolable on panel edges.............imagine trying to cut a piece of steel with an angle grinder with the disc running eccentically....................if you can understand what I mean? I also think it would run too fast..............again would like to try it.
My other tip for you is polishing compounds..............We tried several different makes, admittedly a long time ago now, but always found "Farecle" products to give the best results by far and also easiest to use. Don't spoil the ship etc etc. Also you MUST use the correct grade of polishing mop.

I quite like the dust as it shows where you haven't wiped off & it comes off so easily leaving the paintwork gleaming. I think I might like to try the Meguiars though. There are certainly a lot of products out there, the choice is bewildering.

Auto Balm is the absolute 'Mutts Nuts' and doesn't produce any white dust when used. Also you don't use much at a time.
