As I have the interior stipped for refurbishment I thought I would attend to my wavering speedo needle whilst I as at it. I have used the search facility and found the previous posts but they all refer to an article being emailed to them. Does anybody have a copy of this article and does the fix work?
Thanks.
Roger

The fix works but its quite easy to remove the speedo after unscrwing the trip reset from the dash rail and the the bezel (turn it till the cut-out line up - you may need to bereak the stuck rubber seal).. The insides can then be removed so access can be got to the internals cogs magnet for careful cleaning with WD 40.
The speedo is no different to most cars so a Google search will give more tips.
A tight head will damage the gear drive or break the cable. A stif of kinked cable will also cause same wavering needle

BEFORE stripping the speedo head down, use an electric drill to drive the head. This will determine if the speedo head is OK and whether the fault lies with the speedo cable.

There are 2 things that I am aware of from past experience that can cause a fluttering needle. 1. Oil ingress of the speedo cable. Remove the inner cable at the speedo head, wipe with lacquer thinners or similar solvent until clean. Purchase a small bottle of graphite powder and pull the cable through the powder until the cable is coated with the graphite then reinstall.
2. The cable is flexing (twisting back and forth in longitude) either through unwanted drag within the outer cable or through 'old age' and wear. You could try fixing this by thoroughly cleaning both cables (outer and inner) with solvent then ensure all the surfaces are coated with the powdered graphite.
