A big hello to all of you!My name is Martin and I´m from Berlin / Germany. Just purchased my first ever Rover after driving and taking care of an MGB for 17 years. I immediately fell in love when I saw this nice white/burnt grey ´68 LHD coupé. Couldn´t resist as the coupé has always been one of my dream cars! After inspecting it I considered it worth to buy. Looks good bodywise and drives fine with a couple of minor things to be fixed. So everybody please be prepared for some of my newbie-questions popping up in the near future. Best Regards Martin

Hi Martin, welcome to the forum and the marvelous world of the P5B(!). We are just 100 km away from each other. I took the same path to the P5 like you. Sold my MGB last year for the family. Best regards Mark, P5B ( B=Buick,Better,B-Series) 1970 RHD Coupé

Good to have you on board Martin.A really nice photo and a nice looking car. Your grill badge is off the Mk111 3 litre model not the P5B. I hope you don't mind me telling you . . You will find the forum useful and helpful.

Thanks a lot for all the warm words of welcome. Your forum is much more vivid than the German one. @ GlenR: yes I know about the 3l grille. Time will surely come that I find the right one for her.
First experience with her: I have to allow for at least 10 extra Minutes per ride to answer questions of enthusiastic people on the street. This car definitely causes positive athmosphere whereever it appears. I never had that before with my MGB!
Well, I´m about to start with my very first question in the P5B Electrical section. Well known Lucas confuses me sometimes .........
All the Best
Martin

Lucas is the King of the Road - standardised equpiment and wiring colour codes since the 1920's - colours changed a lot in the 1950's though.
Look forward to hearing more - you have made a wise choice

I would stick to that big badge grille too. Else you had to debate 5 more minutes on the brand of car if no one spots the 'R O V E R' at the boot lid. Looks better anyway. Mark

Hello Martin,
You certainly have a photographer's eye. What a stunningly composed photograph! If you are able to obtain the correct grille and badge, I would wrap it up very carefully and store it somewhere safe - and leave that one where it is. They do look better.

Hi Warwick,
thanks for the commendation. Yes I love taking good photographs. To be honest it´s just a three year old Canon EOS 20D and a little photoshop-tuning. Well I think there´s no need to get hold of the original grille until I´m really sure about her condition under the nice paint. Unfortunately she has no history at all. I saw one NOS at eBay from Rover Parts London but they asked around 245 bucks. I surely spend this money first to keep her running and slightly modify some parts like electronic ignition, a couple of relais to rlieve the poor light switch from getting hot, maybe a couple of H4 lights and for sure some automatic safety belts to keep her (and me) safe. Other than that I will collect some rare pieces to be ready if her body screems for reconditioning. Just got hold of two NOS Front wings for some ridiculous 450 Euros each.
Keep you posted.
Best and thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,
Beautiful photo. Weather in Berlin is better than Emsland!
I sold my P5B coupe when I moved over the border but seeing photo's like yours makes me regret.
This forum is great so you made a number of good decisions.
Best of luck,
Peter

By the way, Gentlemen,
I still don´t know nothing about my car´s history. I know that it was in Belgium before. I alsoi found a two year old invoice in the paperwork provided with her and it seems that it belonged to a guy named Jan Roosen in Mechelen, Belgium. Maybe Jan is around here in the forum? Would appreciate contact with him / you just to get hold of a little bit of information about the coupé.
Furthermore I got a maintenance manual stamped several times by a compoany named W.H Atkinson & Co. (Hudd) Ltd. in Folly Hall, Lockwood Road, Huddersfield stating owner´s name as W.T. Johnson & Sons LTD. Bankfield (?) Mills, Moldgreen, Huddersfield but I doubt this being original to the car as it is a LHD.
Maybe some of you knows one of these?
Best
Martin

No, Mark I didn´t do so yet. Just tried to get information about her from the backend first. I also remember that some were kind of disappointed with the information provided by BMIHT. I had a BMIHT certificate for my MGB and at least I was able to find out fabrication date, original colours and trim, equipment details and that it had still matching numbers after all these years. According to my research on the BMIHT website I doubt I would get that much information about the Rover.

Yep, you are possibly right. The only information I got was the original paint colour scheme. And the confirmation of my estimation of production date shifted by 3 weeks. If your car was a british registred one you could get a lot of information from a V888 document at the DVLA. Mark
