Looking for the little transmission fluid seal where the gear selector shaft goes into the right hand side of the gearbox. Car is a mk3 3litre. Can you get them at all? Would this be best sourced from a Rover parts supplier or a Borg Warner specialist but using the Rover part no.?

A Mk3 3 Litre should be a 35 box.
The selector shaft seal is still available. If you intend replacing it without removing the shaft itself I'd advise buying about 3 seals as you probably damage a couple trying to fit them. In theory it's just a matter of removing the selector arm, prising the old seal out, and pressing the new one in, but it's not quite as easy as it sounds.
As for the seal, get the gearbox number and series from the id plate on the side of the box, then Google "JPAT" and they should have the seals in stock.
I've just looked at the JPAT site and it doesn't look as though the selector shaft seal is available separately, but I'd suggest giving them a call as they may well sell seals individually but not list them all.
If you have problems I may be able to get one for you.

I think I've located a seal, I should be sure on Saturday, so you can send me a PM after that if you'd like to buy it.

Thanks Harvey, I'll get the numbers off the plate on the side of the 'box and try JPAT. If I don't have any luck and you think you might be able to lay your hands on some I'll let you know on PM. I think you're right about having a few spare. Thanks for your help.

I picked up a seal today. Send me a PM if you want it, if not no problem I'll just stick it in stock.

Harvey - got some seals ok from JPAT and have now fitted them on both sides of the selector shaft. Did the cork sump gasket aswell. Thanks for pointing me towards JPAT. I'd recommend them to any other member looking for autobox parts - helpful on the phone and a comprehensive website with part numbers.
