John,
I've followed the main battery cable from the starter motor, and you're right, it is good quality and in good condition. It enters the cabin just below and slightly towards the near side of the point where the steering column passes through the bulkhead. It then passes under the parcel shelf and across to the trim near the handbrake before disappearing behind the side trim ahead of the driver's door. Is this the original route?
And while on the topic, I'd like to confirm where the rest of the loom goes.
It passes across the inside of the bulkhead above the parcel shelf. On the right hand side, after the mess of wires that branch off to the instrument panel and steering column, it branches down to the brake light switch, the foglight switch and cigarette lighter, with another to the inside of the console. Presumably this one goes to the rear heater switch on the end of the console.
After these branches and still heading right, it goes out into the engine bay. Apart from the handbrake switch, are there any other branches on the right inside the cabin?
To the left, it goes to the lefthand corner where it branches off to the clock and to the rear of the car before going out into the LHS of the engine bay.
In the boot, it emerges from the top lefthand corner where it branches off to the nearside rear lights and the number plate and reversing lights on the boot lid. The main loom travels across to the right above the petrol tank, branches off to the tank sender, and continues around to the offside rear lights.
Where do the interior light wires run and where does the loom to the rear heater fan go? Is there another part of the loom running with the battery cable along the inside of the righthand side of the floor?
