I had a coupe in the early 80s that has electric windows,"infact i thought they were standard till recently".I did a long search here and everywhere and cannot find the answer. I know people think its wrong and quicker to wind, but you try and do it with one arm on the wrong side !(no i dont want lhd ) Universal electric bolt ons kits are NOT a option.I dont mind faffing about with donor mechinisms.Ive been busy this week and bought 4 x xj s2 units, but theyre far too big for coupe, but they fit saloon ?. I know theres some serial modifiers out there who like a challenge, ore can someone simply inform me how they did theres. thank you.

Have a look at the gears if they are roughly the same size it is a cut and weld job.

Sounds like a fun project. Possibly look at some scrap yards , check out the range rovers or discoverys. They might have the same mechs .

The XJ units fit straight into the saloon front but as you say, are no good for the coupe unless you can make a hybrid of the rover arms and jag electric motors.
Old fashioned universal kits slotted over the original square winder peg mechanism (but under the door card) so that they physically wound the square peg of the winder for you.
You were either left with the original winder knob in place (moving on its own!) or you had to saw the excess of the winder peg off and place a blanking plate over the hole in your door card.
I actually have one of these kits somewhere in the garage because I wanted electric winders in the coupe. I could never convince myself to chop a good winder off a coupe front!!
Personally I would look at the xj option unless you are lucky or clever enough to find a modern replacement. You could try looking at yank mechanisms as almost everything is remade and a lot of old american cars has electric windows or kits to convert them....

my motor had electric windows in,took them out to be restored as motors was knackered, and the company i went to popped, and i lost the units."sad times". I tried forever to track down a simular set, went back to manual winders. They wasnt the scissor type, more rolls royce in appearence, just up and down. They however wasnt rolls royce ones,£300 later i found that out....

Hi, I did this mod back in the 80s I got a complete set of lifters wiring and switches from a Vauxhall Viscount (I know, rarer than P5s) all I did was mount the electric lifters in the bottom half of the door and connected the two arms together with a rose jointed rod. I then removed the winder which was shot. I left the spring on the old arm as it balanced the weight of the window.
I would think any powered arm could be mounted this way and made to work.
Just a thought.
