If anyone hasn't been to this show before, it is a good one, and all under cover. Usually there is a lot of autojumble too. Hopefully I'll be there, if not both days then on the Saturday.

That's good info David, if I'm only there as a spectator I'll get on the site and get my tickets.

I should be there all weekend, on the WVPS stand. No rover P5's this time only the Morris Marina RAC van. It's the only one being used at the moment, all the others are tucked up in bed.

David Another good show again even if it was brass monkey weather inside. I was told that on Saturday it was minus six degrees outside. I must admit I didn't notice the cold much as I was walking about all day and talking to people throughout the site and didn't get a chance to sit down until I was on the way home. I don't know if any other subscribers to this site came along but it was worth it. Only two Rover P5's were on stand, Dave Bull's 3.5 Coupe on the P5 Club stand and a 3 litre saloon from the Norton Radstock Club. I was fortunate in that Practical Classics were very interested in the RAC van and want to contact me in the next couple of weeks with a view to do an article on it together with pics. They think it's an ideal vehicle to do period film work, so fingers crossed. Also another company made contact with me, again with the chance of doing promotional work and film work. Not bad for a humble Marina van.

Excellent news John. Yes it was a good show, though having stood on the stand most of the weekend, it felt more like -6 inside! Having no heating, electrics or lights didn't help. Oh how I envy the NEC lot I was told that some clubs were getting together to send a petition to the organisers telling them either the heating and lighting is switched on next year or they will cover their cars on Saturday morning, close their stand down and leave them there till Sunday evening. Did you hear any whispers? It seems the exhibitors may be revolting and I must admit I may well join them!

Sounds like the show was held in a barn!!!!
The organisers ought to look after the exhibitors better than that or else the exhibitors won't botther to turn up next year. We (those who show their cars) are providing the attactions after all!!
Cheers

Yes I have heard something on those lines David. In the top hall where we were they are looking at putting in solar heating which should help a bit. Our club stand were a little bit fortunate in that we hired a calor gas heater from the organisers at great cost so we were able to keep ourselves from being frostbitten. If the wind hadn't been so strong from the east then things may have been better. I felt sorry for the traders who were stuck in the connecting tunnels and paid £250 for the privilege. There was no means of any heat and the wind came in like a gale at foot level. Even worse was the traders who were outside braving the elements, only a handful of brave souls went round their stalls. I do agree that the organisers must try and come up with something better for next year otherwise both trade and public will vote with their feet and not turn up. That would be a shame as it's a very friendly show as most of the car clubs intermix with each other.

Just an update. I called the organisers and explained that much as we enjoyed the show, the heating was totally inadequate for those who were helping on the stand. The answer I got was, and I quote: 'What do you expect at this time of year. We cannot be responsible for the weather......" I did explain that the heating that was supplied to heat an entire hall was no better than a single fan heater and some stands were so unhappy they were planning on raising a petition for next year, yet I still got a dismissive response. I was also going to raise the point of no electrics and no lighting - you try dismantling a stand in darkness - but feel my concerns would fall on deaf ears. Make no mistake t, this show is great, but I do feel the organisers are taking more than a liberty with the exhibitors good intentions. Me, revolting? You should see me first thing in the morning......

I suppose one has to get used to being fobbed off with negative answers. Remember it is sponsored by an Insurance Company. Talking of lights, we were charged for having a power point, but there was no way we could have had one. Maybe I'll give it a miss next year unless I can get some free entrance tickets.

Just for anyone who may be interested, a pic of my RAC van with a short description appears in the April edition of 'Practical Classics'.
