The local Bournemouth and Poole Preservation Club who run the 'Classics on the Prom' throughout the summer months in Bournemouth decided to try out this run and see how it took off. They allowed for about 80 to 100 cars taking part, but an hour and a half before the run began the figure was 157 cars and rising. We started off with a static display at Lulworth Castle, and then after a 55 to 60 mile raod run we finished off with another static display at Highcliffe Castle which is just off the main Lymington road. This is a view of Lulworth Castle taken early on as cars were arriving. In the front row, seventh from the right is a local P5 Saloon. This lovely P5 saloon is Juniper Green over Stone and is totally original. It was first registered in Bournemouth and has lived there ever since. The owner is a past club member who dropped his membership due to lack of Rover Club activity in the immediate area back in the past. He has no intention of ever selling it as it is well cherished. This is Highcliffe Castle which is in the process of restoration. They do lovely cream teas. (must think of ones stomach) The run took in a good part of Dorset and Hampshire, and those who like to pootle along at 30-40 mph were rudely awakened. To complete the course meant driving at high speed in some instances. I had about five 'stags', an 'mgb' and Jaguar 4.2 cabriolet in front of me, so overtaking the slower ones was no problem. All in all a great day out and no rain anywhere.
