Dear all. Ive just bought my 1st P5b and love it. Ive got to grips with most of the 1971 workings apart from one thing. Just outside the windscreen (drivers side) above the wheel arch is a small chrome flat spear shaped thing. Has anyone got an idea what it is or what it is for as It cant be seen when driving the car but only from the outside. I know im going to look silly but ah I am the new boy!

I can only think it's the rest for the windscreen wiper to park off screen?

Thanks for that. But it is a good 4" away from the windscreen, I should have said, but cheers.

When the windscreen wipers are at rest, they should be off the windscreen and sit below it on the scuttle, hence the small chrome rest on the drivers side for that wiper blade to sit on. The passengers wiper blade just sits on the bodywork. Even more quaint is the way the wipers perform when switching them off!! Welcome to classic motoring! Adrian

Thanks Adrian. It looks like my wipers are off set then. When at park they park about 1.5" away from it. Is there a "easy" way to reset where they park?

This is the o/s wiper rest. Both wipers can be adjusted to park correctly off the screen, note the ramp at the bottom of the arms and its adjusting screw. The n/s wiper should be between the bottom of the windscreen and the air intake grill. The pad in the wiper arm should just make contact with the ramp when in the parking position.
