I have already had some help from this board and wondered if I can get an official certificate for my car as I need one to register it in France. There is an alternative but it comes with restrictions which I do not want. I have a copy of one but it is not specifically for my car. A couple of years ago I could have got one but Rover is no more.

Humphrey you need this site:- www.heritage-motor-centre.co.ukYou can download the Certificate application form, send off £30 plus £5 postage and you'll recieve a Certificate specifically for your car. Good luck!!

Is that the same as a Certificate of Conformity according to EU rules?

No it isn't. It only tells you the build date, original specification, and chassis and engine numbers.
I doubt if you will be able to get one, as the manufacturer does not exist any more, and apart from that, how can it conform to silly EU rules as it was made before we joined the EU ?
Yet another reason why this country should get out of the EU !

The certificate of conformity that the French "Service des Mines" is requesting from you, is the certificate that was issued in 1969 to Paris Montceau Automobiles who was in that time the Official Rover importer for France. You do not have to buy it from Rover France( anyway they are dead now) but you can get it from the "Service des Mines" which keeps a record of all the cars that have ever been imported to France. The P5B has officially been imported to France and passed the relevant tests. That's the good news. The bad news are that the people in charge with that in France are fu.... civil servants and if they are not in the proper mood will make you climbing up the wall. I have dealt quite often with them, so if you haven't already solved the problem you can call me at 0033(0)64228633 and I will help you in those silly walks.

I had it registered as a collection car that was far easier with a few restrictions but more benefits. France is soon to change the laws under pressure to homonogise. Any car over 30 years old is unlikely to receive full status in france if it is being registered for the first time. There are probably some on this board who have contemplated a move. Dont be put off by these difficulties as it is a wonderful country for old style motoring.
