Hi everyone I am relatively new to the club but read this forum with interest as I am constantly picking up restoration tips along the way. I am restoring a p5b and while the bodywork is being done I am tackling the exterior trim.
Do any of you have any restoration tips for the grille. The chrome pieces are no problem as these can be rechromed easily. However I am at a loss as to what can be done with the vertical slats and centre post. These appear to be some kind do anodised aluminium. They have previously been painted but this is now flaking off. I had considered powder coating.
I would appreciate any ideas or previous experience. Thanks. Dave

Hi Dave welcome to the forum i also have interest in this thread. I think the flutes are natural alloy. Can we have some input from fellow members? The centre badge is the colour gold?

This may be of interest, I had to do something as stones had chipped through the anodising and it was all bubbly with corosion roverp5.proboards.com/thread/6978/project-shiny-grillIt's a fiddly job to polish all the parts so painting may be an option for protection against the weather, use an etch primer first though. Mine has been polished for over a year and looks as good as when first done.

Many thanks Steve. That looks very impressive. I agree with your advice regarding painting the horizontal slats back to hide them - not original but gives a cleaner look.
I have two grilles to play with so will be experimenting with your method and also with powder coating which has worked well with my aluminium Triumph Stag grille. It is made of a similar material and has lasted 12 years with no stone chips or lifting.
Cheers. Dave

Resurrecting this thread as I have started to renovate my grill. Does anyone know what is the proper size of the pop rivets holding the vertical bars, please.
