Dean If you have the workshop manual 3.5 supplement and basic tools/skills including a pulley extractor, the 11AC is pretty straightforward to overhaul. I've done two. Both the front bearing and the rear needle bearing are readily available as are the brushes. The only part that might need the attention of a machine shop are the slip rings which might be a bit grooved. A light skim in a lathe is sometimes needed. The electrics are so simple that there's rarely a problem there.

I agree with Resurgam. The 11AC is simple to rebuild, so Its not worth paying over the odds for a reconditioned unit.
Of course you could always convert to a more modern "all in one" unit (I would) but thats your choice, unless you wish to maintain originality.

I dont have a lathe or bearing pullers . The parts i could need and postage works out more expensive then a recon unit. Is there any other suppliers of new or recon 11ac alternators ? except Wadhams or Mr Green ? Probably not but why not use them? You might find that the recon'd unit comes without the pulley!

Dean, there are a couple of NOS 11AC alternators on there as well. They are listed as being for Aston Martins or something but can't be far off being suitable for the Rover. If the seller doesn't want to post to Spain I'd happily do it at cost if you buy one of them and get it delivered to me in the UK. The same goes for the parts to refurb an alternator - at least they'd all be in one package going to Spain. link

Good luck Simon H

It depends - there is a left hand and right version as to the position of bracket for adjuster bar. This can be repositioned though

So after replacing alternator twice , using two regulators and relays , it turns out to be a problem with the signal supply to the alternator ! Anyone need a 11ac alternator :-)
