Have just spent 4 hrs hacksawing through the clevis pin that hold the master cylinder rod to the brake pedal so i can remove the master cylinder. Surely the pin should just pop out Have i missed something or is this just due to lack of a bit of grease? Don't want to make the same mistake again when refitting.

;DNo as long has you removed the cotter pin This happened to me as well - most times they just push out but then if water has got in there it rusts it in Use plenty of Copaslip with the new one

mine was also rusted solid. a tip for anyone else in the same boat undo the master cylinder securing bolts x2 pull the cylinder out from the bulkhead enough so with the aid of a pair of angled pointed pliers release the circlip holding the seals in place then pull the cylinder body away from the piston and then remove the brake pedal completely from the car then you can takle the rusty git of a pin took me about 20 mins
