well after owning my p5b for a few day now i have found a few things thet need doing ASAP. Door rubbers. washed the car yesterday morning and i think there was more water in the car than on it and i only used a bucket Carb rebuild. The por old girl dosnt like cold morning starts. It runs very flat and keeps cutting out. Ive worked with SU's before so shouldt be to much of a prop. Smell of Fuel. i put £25 in her yesterday and the smell of fuel was really bad. Im hoping its a breather pipe split on the tank but any info would be great gents. And im also after getting a car cover for the winter. can anyone recomend one to me please?? thanx for your time Tony

I bought door rubbers from David Green recently They are from a company called Scotts of Australia They look good Smell of fuel,is that when your driving round certain bends? If so the club sells filler cap seals I looked at cover a few months ago I think the one that advertise in the club mag is the one J R Wadhams sells I got a sample of the cover, but ain't had a chance to have a good look at it yet

Tony, before stripping down the SU's it might be worth investing in an aerosol can of carb cleaner. With the engine running at fast tickover and the air filter elbows removed, inject the intake chambers in turn giving it a steady spray. It shifts the brown deposits rapidly, and after a short time, the engine does run smoother. I did this on a neighbours Scimitar SE5a the other day which is fitted with a Weber carb, and it was great to see the accumulation of dirt etc disappearing down the carb and out through the exhaust. Needless to say it idled much smoother afterwards.
Regards the smell of petrol after filling up I too have the same problem, this is because very often the convoluted tube fitted inside the main hose is no longer there. This tube is for the fuel to go down into the tank, and the outer one exudes the air coming up. You may have noticed that it takes a long time to fill up. This together with a new seal on the cap and a new 'O' ring should get rid of the smell. One other check to make is the over-flow pipe. Sometimes this is too short, and when cornering on a full tank fuel will go down the overflow pipe and into the boot. The pipe must go down below the boot floor into the open air.

As far as car covers go have a look at this link http:/www.classicadditions.co.uk
If you check out their lightweight, breathable range they are perfectly OK for outdoor or indoor use. I have them on all my cars whether or not they are out or inside. It's a choice between either size 'D' or size 'E'. The larger one does mean that when fitted it comes just below the centre of the wheels, so virtually everything is well protected, like sills and the bottom of the wings. Not only that but at least you get a flow of air underneath the car to keep everything dry. I have found that if they have the size in stock, it can be next day delivery.

The smell of fuel is when i fill it up. i put half a tank in it and it stank for a day or 2 but seams to be ok now???
The other thing i need to ask is :- Cooling. Has anyone fitted an electric fan to the Rad? if so what do you think about it??? Ive noticed it gets a bit hot when sitting idle after a run on the motorway. Its not gone up into the red yet so no to worried yet but would like something there just incase. any idears???

I fitted a Kenlowe fan kit when I first got mine - but shortly after I had leak on the rad - fitted a new rad and all hoses at the same time and found that my cooling problems had gone away! - So I guess it's worth giving the water works a good going over first and flushing out any crud in the rad.
Good luck with yours it looks very nice
