Am assuming that the windscreens in the P5Bs are not laminated, does anyone know where laminated screens can be bought, and would members be interested in a run of quick clear windscreens (as fitted to modern fords) if i can find out who makes them as i know they are available for moggie minors.

Only laminated can obained now brand new - I know this because 2 years ago I got one from Wadhams and last year Autowindsscreens obtained me another within a week and fitted it. They can be made to order
They were optional extras from mid 1960's but secondhand ones are not a good idea as they are likely to fail - toughened ones can be got secondhand but they are likely to have miriads of small scratches on them that spoil night driving

How can you tell the difference by looking at them?

Put on a pair of polaroid sunglasses! A toughened screen will have a pattern through it, laminated ones are just clear.

Just as a related topic to glass, I'd be interested to know how many P5B's were fitted with Sundym glass, I've only ever seen one, a coupe, and I wondered just how rare they were.

My coupe has a toughened windscreen, but the rear one is laminated, so it has very fine lines for the heated element. Toughened ones have the bolder yellow lines. Toughened glass is actually stronger but has the drawback of collapsing if it breaks. Some years ago I went over a section of the M25 where the road had a poor join in it. It caused the body to flex and put a crack in the rear window. Rather than replace the window I put a sticker over it ! and it has not got any worse. Laminated glass can also mist from the edges if it adsorbs moisture. As Phil says second hand screens are not always satisfactory. Another member gave me an old rear screen, but as much as I polish it I cannot get it to shine !!!
