Gents,
As I use my P5B everyday, and am invariably sat in London traffic for the commute, (!) - I'd like to upgrade to a modern CD player from the fairly unreliable AM radio. I don't want to mess around with the dash or replace the existing AM radio, as I like it to look original.
Has anyone fitted a modern headunit, but hidden out the way - same goes for the speakers?)
Any pictures of installs / ideas gratefully received?
Thanks,
Steve.

I can only suggest the glovebox or alternatively under the parcel shelf. Although I have got radios in all but one of my cars I never ever switch them on.

Hi John,
I think the Glovebox will be the most suitable place if I can get one to fit - I was hoping that someone might have thought about an ideal place...ditto with the speakers.
I junked the 8 track in my Interceptor to replace with a modern all singing/dancing CD player - and have regreted it ever since - It just looks so out of place.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve you can always do what I may! do fit the center compartment which has a door and fit what you want behind that!

Hi Steve
Let me have a think, maybe able to build you something and trim it to match. Again the same with the speakers could make a customer speaker pod under the dash or in the foot areas.
Back off holiday so will sort the screens out for you and get back to you.

Hi Barry, Welcome back!! That might be a plan with building something in that looks subtle and "original" I've sent you a PM. Cheers, Steve

There was a guy on ebay a couple of weeks ago who was selling a modern CD radio that looked like a 60s set when you wanted it too. He chose a modern unit with a removable front plate, then cut the front off of a Motorola or Radiomobile. With a bit of ingenuity, he made the 'old' front clip in the 'new' set. Obviously, with the 'old' faceplate in place it didn't work, but looked the part. When you want a working radio, just clip in the 'new' face.
I got the impression that he was making these to order, but I can't find him now.
Keith.

Hello Visit www.koenigs-klassik.de he got all you need. I myself have a Blaupunkt Köln from the mid sixties (it works with positive earth) in my 3 litre-59, it is mounted on the parcels shelf. I have the speaker under the front seat. I have a connection cable so i can use my Ericsson w810 as mp3 player (ca 20 cd-disc) when i don´t want to listen to the radio. Regards Lars A

I took the front off an original radio and glued it in place on the front of the dash radio grill (where it is supposed to be).
Then I removed the grill mounting screws(in the L shaped chrome bits) and bolted only the front holes with small nuts and bolts.
Then I added a magnet (from a cupboard door) to the top of the rear side of the speaker grill and hey presto you have a drop down dummy radio front and grill.
Behind it I fitted a minidisc head unit with a slimline cd multichanger in the passenger side footwell.

Hi Steve,
I am having a Panasonic digital radio/CD unit fitted into the glovebox. Then disconnecting the old radio but leaving the fascia in place in the centre of the dash.
You know, you can also use an iPod with an iTrip to play any of your music in the car on a certain FM channel.
