James is happy to have a chat with you as to why you had a problem Thanks for asking on my behalf - maybe I just caught them on a bad day? But I ended up with Lancaster Insurance.

I would have thought that as a perk of your membership the P5 club would have negotiated a discount with an insurance company in the Uk as the Association of Rover car clubs in New Zealand did with AA insurance over here. Thus giving another reason to join a rover car club. I know this thread is old but it would be nice to know and especially as ive just joined this club and in the process of looking for a P5B to buy that there is now some sort of Insurance guide/firm now in place for this club. I don't seem to be able to find anything yet. Regards,

Hi Brendan,
The club does not have a designated insurance company, mainly because prices vary almost month on month, so always best to phone around to get the insurance that suits you. Also the selection of insurance companies has changed over recent years, since the original post, so there is far greater choice.
However, most if not all, insist you are a member of a car club, so you should get a discount irrespective of which insurance company you approach. It is not unheard of for insurance claims to be rejected if it is found the owner said, but was not, a member of a car club.

Brendan,
For the reasons mentioned by David we have avoided a direct link with any insurer, nowadays loyalty just doesn’t pay and I think it is worth shopping around for all insurance every couple of years.
Hagerty are a company that I frequently hear good feedback on, and my personal dealings with them were all positive. That is not to suggest they are any better or worse than anyone else in the market.
Cheers
Peter

There can be no guide as Classic car insurance depends on so many factors other than driver's age & convictions. I need business travel (not much) but many will not even contemplate commuting. I still use Peter Best for all 7 of our classics and still paying less than I did for an almost new Rover 820SE 25 years ago.
Do not use internet quotes - phone them

Have probably used most of them over the years but at the moment I am with Lancaster, who have their own valuation system, which can make things easier.

Cheers guys for the advice and guidance. Much appreciated. I did spend an hour or so online yesterday just perusing the differing sites and offerings etc.
Ive shortlisted 2 companies I will enquire with. Hagerty and Peter Best. The latter ive been with in the past and had no issues with them albeit Hagerty look good too so i'll seek them both out when I need to.
I do have a multicar policy with Admiral too with my 2 daily drivers and they now accommodate for classic cars so i'll ask them also.
Many thanks.

Make sure you give a decent valuation (usually slightly more than retail) for classic cars. As part of it's membership benefits, the Rover P5 Club does offer a Valuation Service to members only; www.roverp5club.org.uk/#insurancevaluation

Hi there, having asked the same question a few days ago I have today had a really nice and informative chat with Callum @ Hagerty insurance.
We spoke in detail and often digressed off the path but the conversation was great and the quote they gave me for any P5B saloon was extreamley good so if I do buy one very soon I shall be ringing them back and taking them up on their offer/quotation which was also fully agreed value too with all the bells and whistles you would expect from any top agreed value policy.
So my search for a good insurer has ended and I shall indeed be using Hegerty when the time comes.
Regards,
