I want to refurbish (rather than disconnect!)the rear heater. I have seen a Smiths motor that is fairly reasonable on Ebay. Its described as 12V from a Series 2a Landy said to be operating on a 12V battery. But it seems that many, if not all Landrovers had a 24V heater motor! The vendor has checked but, the serial/voltage labels are no longer present. As some of you guys have knowledge of Landrovers too I wondered if you can help answer a couple of questions? 1) Is it possible that the Ser 2A used a 12V heater motor? 2) Can a motor for a 24V system be adapted somehow? (Bearing in mind my electrical skills are limited!! I will be renewing the resistor anyway, so its possible that any additional components could be added at the same time. Thanks in advance. Andy

Andy Why does it seem like the Landrover uses 24V? ?? Does not seem like that to me! A change in voltage in any case will just lead to a change in speed. Even if the motor is 24V, it can normally be used on 12, albeit at about half speed. And Landrovers normally use 12 V as far as I know. My Range Rover certainly does.

IIRC some military Land Rovers were 24v, but I don't remember civilian ones being so.

The only 24 Volt Landies were military FFR (Fitted For Radio) variants. I once had one but it got converted to 12 Volts when I put a V8 in it. By far the vast majority of Landies have 12 Volt electrics.

Most Series LR used the 12v standard Smiths motor used om almost every British car 1950-80's

Come to think of it, all the hits on the search engine were referring to the military versions so that would make sense. I guess Google doesn't rate the civy version!!! Thanks for the responses guys I feel confident to take a punt on the Ebay one now.
