Hello, I'm trying to put my 2.6 liters MKII P5 back on the road. Engine is runing now but after a first test around my parking, the manual gearbox doesn't let me select any other gear than reverse. Oil have been changed with motor oil 20/40 as specified on the user manual. The car had not run for decades so perhaps someting is stucked; but on the first test, gears were passing althougt with dificulty. Any idea ?

I assume it has oil in it (20/50) - you can remove the gearbox lid and look at the selectors or if a remote the rods may have siezed

Thank you Phil, that was more or less the idea I had to plan for my next free week-end. I hope I will have one before spring and will let you know then.
BTW if french P5 owners read this, we could perhaps get in touch. P5 are rare on this side of the chanel.

Thank you, Warwick, for the contacts. So, Phil, I removed the gearbox lid and had a look at the selectors (see picture). I fond enough hazelnuts for a squirrel to pass winter disposed under them on the gearbox . After cleaning and greasing it, the 3 selectors where moving correctly under my fingers. I reassembled the lid but the rod that is supposed to push-pull the selectors as I was doing manually is geting out of the selectors holes when pulling the stick shift on the left. Even when I replace it, everything seems blocked. Is there a way to adjust the rod height or anything else to check ? The selectors with rod simply put in the selectors holes

I have not studied this closely before - there may be shims? However it seems the problem lies outside the box, the set up is not disimilar to the Land Rove box and both P3-P4 all of which derive from the pre-war P1-P2

Thank you, Warwick, for the contacts. Sorry Cooper, I just realized that we haven't heard from Humphrey and Patrick for awhile, so I checked. Humphrey hasn't logged on for 4 years and Patrick hasn't since the middle of last year. Cyf might be our only currently active Frenchman.

Hello, thank you for your support. indeed, I posted MP to 3 of them and did not receive any answer actually... feeling alone on this side of the chanel. For my gearbox problem, I feel ashamed but easyest problems are sometime trickyests to solve : the rear gear lever was engaged when I mounted the gearbox lid. So other levers where blocked by the gearbox mecanism and I had no way to move rear gear lever as its hole was not facing the others. :/ Well, everything is back on tracks now and I have been able to drive around my parking what did impressed a lot my neighbours. Now, 1 - I have to mount a gas pressure regulator to avoid consuming 1l evry ten minutes (the not genuine electric pump output too much it seems) 2 - I have to solve a power steering receptor leaking problem (I perhaps will open another thread for that) 3 - Cross fingers about the strange boiling noise escaping from the engine when I turn it of (temperature gauge looks ok and no steam or water goes out). Some more checkings and let's go for MOT Thanks again to all of you
