Hello, just been for a run in the P5b Coupe. My mechanic has been playing with the carbs to reduce idle speed which is now better but nortice some misfiring. Anyway just came home, turned engine off for a few mins then tried to restart, engine did nit turn instead, a very loud machine gun type sound when I turn key! Any ideas please thx Noshir

Just jumped it and started straight away. Is it a weak battery? Thx Either the battery itself, or a very poor connection between the battery terminal and the post, so try cleaning those first, if not, then by jumping it you've eliminated the rest of the system from the battery onwards. [edit] Obviously don't discount the possibility that it just wants charging.....

From your primary comment I'd say you need another mechanic. If it's idling fast, and has a misfire it may have a vacuum leak somewhere but it sounds like your mechanic is fiddling with the carbs rather than accurately diagnosing it and implimenting the appropriate fix.

Look for any garage that specializes in English classic cars...Jaguar, Daimler, Triumph, Wolseley, Morris, as they all used CD carbs in various forms (SU or Zenith Stromberg) or learn from this tech board. There will be more than enough respondents to answer your questions and provide guidance if you ask the appropriate questions?
