The restoration of the rear seats is going well so its time to start on the front seats.
How do I dismantle the front seats? I assume I have to undo the tilt mechanism and then there is another plate below that looks like it need to come off.
Is any of this mechanism under tension if so how much?
Many thanks in advance!!

There is no advantage in separating the seat from its back except for access. the part that is preventing the seat cover from coming off is well hidden so an incision is all thats necessary.

I did a search but the links were not recognised, hence this post. I don't have a manual either.

That's interesting. Would prefer to do that as long as once the cover is put back on there is no sign that it has been cut and that the cover is secure!

Yes, the seat cover will be able to be removed (with a hefty ripping tug after making incision) and replaced securely as its not a fixing point behind there, the leatherette is only trapped by the connection between the seat and backrest and is totally invisible when replaced.

The seats are easy to dismantle and for me the job was much easier, plus you can service all the mechanism at the same time, there was no cutting needed it all went back as it came apart! most guys are just wanting to replace foam or do some stitching so the least damage done the better

I find when driving alone that the passenger seat rattles about a bit, neither seat seems especially solid but I can't find any loose bolts or fixings. Is that reasonably normal for these cars?. The noise is a bit irritating in an otherwise quiet car.

The manual is really necessary and well worth the ££ search can be tricky use 3000 days!

I had a spare couple of seat bases and used one to replace the driver's side which had a lot of play in the pivots. I also started again with the spacers between base and floor as there seemed a rather odd collection. I managed to get the flat and square using a spirit level, now the seat slides back and forth easily.

Thanks for that really useful.
It is a lot more simple than it looks. Got the seat apart easy enough.
Next new chip foam, strip and re-colour leather and put it back together!
