This is my old transit campervan. Bought some years ago in a rough state,it was cheap and even then there were not a lot of them around. This picture is a couple of years back, since then I have cut the wings off and welded them back on they had been fitted badly and stood well proud of the doors, five years later they had annoyed me long enough. The engine on these is a V4,the same as fitted to the corsair,Zephyr,Granada and some Capris. I rebuilt a spare engine bought from a scrap yard. Its a high compression unit with the heads and manifolds cleaned up and fitted to an overdrive gearbox taken out of a V6 engined ambulance and with modified mounts and prop shaft to fit. About the same time I took of the axle to replace the king pins and convert it to disc brakes with a larger servo. Luckily I had an assistant to help with the king pins. The steps were replaced a long while ago, they are now hard to source, although relatively simple to make. Both sides were pretty rotten, the seats moved because the box sections under them were corroded and these were replaced, later the seats were changed for a bench passengers and single drivers side.
I also had to make up a new front cross member,it had corroded badly and there was little left to even support the radiator. The top edge is a curved panel and I couldn't bend the thicker metal that I was welding in.Instead a cut slots and 'V' cuts and was able to get a curve to fit well with the front panel. The finished cross member isn't very pretty but the van can now be jacked up with a trolley jack in the centre of it .

The passenger side wing was badly corroded where welded to the body ,although new wings had been fitted the gaps were horrible and had been plastered with filler.
