Any members have any experience with the Huco suction fuel pump? www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/car-accessories/fuel-pumps-regulators-accessories/huco-low-pressure-12v-fuel-pump-133010/I had a nightmare with a Durite pump - which was very quiet but just kept breaking down again and again (fuel evaporation?) and leaving me marooned by the side of the road during rush hour traffic. I replaced with a Lucas pump (also fitted in engine bay) which works fine except it is like having a pint-sized machine gun operator living inside of the bonnet and is very tiring noise wise. So I have been recommended a Huco, which apparently is very quiet but comfortable with being mounted insie the engine bay. Anyone here used a Huco? As I am a bit nervous about going through the Durite nightmare again of never being 100% certain the car will bring me home.

Purchase a facet pump and mount on rubber blocks. Cheap and reliable.

I use a facet and the only ticking noise is when the ignition is switched on and it sucks the petrol through for a couple of seconds. Then I fire the ignition and no more noise. Mine is mounted down on the inner wing, next to the radiator on the passenger side. It has never let me down in the 7 years I've had this car (famous last words).

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
So, the Facet is quieter than the Lucas from what you are saying? And mounted on rubber on the passengers wing - down by the radiator.
Having doubts now whether to even attempt installing the Huco suction pump as although I'm intrigued about it's quietness and I'm still not convinced about its reliability. It was just so embarrassing when I kept breaking down with the Durite pump. On busy roads and incnvenient times and having to push one and a half tons of P5B up the road and out of harms way. I'm sure many of you know the feeling!

I've mounted a facet pump on rubber isolation blocks on the engine bay firewall of my Magnette (V8 coupe project car.) The pump should be gravity fed on the inlet side, so ideally should be mounted lower than the tank. Having said that, I mounted mine higher being too lazy at the time to read the literature. It works fine like this if I start the engine regularly but if I leave it for a week or so, fuel drains back (a dumbass anti theft device ) When this happens, I unscrew the fuel line to the carburettors, place one end in a jar and turn the ignition on for 5 - 10 secs. The pump then self primes. A more permanent fix is to either lower the pump or fit an anti drain back valve at the tank feed. As for noise, the only time I can hear it operating is when I initially turn the key to the run position.
