Hello P5-Friends,
In my P5-MKI-1961 I am smelling petrol in the boot and also in the interior of the car. I have checked for the obvious leaks, but didn't find any indicatiob of a leak.
Is there any obvious spot to look for? In the manual it says to use petrol-proof compound when refitting the filler pipe connections. Last year I replaced the filler cap assembly, but did not use the petrol proof compound. Should I check all pipe connections and replace the compound? Could this be the reason? Where to buy this compound and how to use it?
Advise please!
Thanks Frans

Assuming that the tank has not rusted through - worst senario, it can only be a connection. Rather than a compound have the pipes going into the tank got a gasket. Check that the filler tube is seated OK and any clips are tight. The problem with petrol is that it evaporates quickly so there are few signs

Frans,
It could be that the filler hoses are a bit deteriorated. I had it with my project P5B. I bought some petrol resistance hose at a hydraulic shop. I had to buy 1m so have plenty left which you can buy. It was Euro 40,- for 1m so not really expensive

Frans, I had the same issue of petrol smell but could not locate it anywhere. Lift the rear seat bases and see if there is any petrol in there. There is a drain tap (bolt) directly under the tank, mine was dripping and it was seeping into the car and under the carpets. To tighten you have to lay under the car, remove the round cover plate which has 3 screws and is above the axle. Then you can see the drain tap above it.
