I ventured to ask Pilkington for a price for front and rear screens for my P5B coupe and they report as follows: prntscr.com/l1fqzk

Hi Eric, I'm guessing the different codes point to green or blue tinted screens, or clear. Plus top tint options?

there appears to be no text reference to colours in this link Roy but as i see some Bs and Gs in the list, like you i guess that is what it refers to.

Did you notice that it says that they do not list a rear screen, that would be a disaster if you needed one.
My front screen is only toughened, which worries me on a long run, presumably they do not make those anymore.

I did notice and that was my main reason for enquiring and thats why I ensured to capture that part in my screen shot. I was concerned that when re-glazing my heated rear glass, how long to get a new replacement in the event of a breakage - seems no chance at all! Trouble is if I sourced a used one in whatever condition I might be stuck with it, having laid out much monies!

6 options for coupés? I note the reference to green or blue tint, so is it clear/blue/green with each available as toughened or laminated.
Has anybody seen an original P5B with blue tinted windows? I don't recall them in blue, there were a few green ones around and the P6s, when fitted with tinted glass were, IIRC, green.

Eric, see page 20 of the October issue of Take Five for details on windscreen colour options and pricing, written by Eddie Halling. You should be getting your magazine over this weekend.

Thanks for the links. I dont see the heating element in the rear one but will ask for clarification. JRW website states collection only and 10-14 weeks delivery but I will ask him if this is current. Cant afford to have the car off the road for 3 months!

I know of a firm in Finland that can make any screen. The MDs name is I think Anji but I've lost all contact details. I've mailed a classic car guy in Finland I know and hopefully he can provide the details. I remember reading about them supplying a one off windscreen for some obscure American car a while back.

Looking at the picture of the rear screen there appear to be 2 wires attatched to the top corners of the screen, The laminated screens have very fine elements. I know someone who has just bought a P5b coupe and looking at the pictures of the interior it does not have a switch for a heated rear screen. Only the very late P5s had tinted screens so it would be good to be able to get one.

I don't think they were available on the P5s, and came in as an option a few years into production of the P5B. The first one I saw, and can recall, was on an H-regd (UK)coupé, which would have been from Aug 1969 onwards. It was quite a noticeable addition back then. I also recall somebody having a late series1 3500, white with tinted windows; again fairly unusual then. It was H or J reg.

the switch is illuminated when in use and is to the left of the ciggy lighter. This particular car does not have the switch, just the fog light switch to the right of the cigar lighter.

I have a firm in finland who can make any windscreen,Ive spoken to them but its not the original contact I wanted. However just out of curiousty. Looking on Pilkingtons site I saw this at the bottom "Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd.
Head Office - 3-5-27 Mita Minato-ku Tokyo ". Is this yet another company thats been taken over?

When I was a kid my mum adopted a cat, given to her by an aunt who lived in london. Some weeks later she was contacted by a Lady Pilkington,it turned out the cat was hers and had strayed. She wanted it back (it was a pedigree of some sort) and a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce turned up to collect it,( I remember all the neighbours curtains twitching) mum was give a hamper and a persian kitten. The chauffeur was been and gone in minutes and hardly spoke a word. She wrote to the lady a few times,(whos family were indeed the glass people) I believe her title was bought by her daughter who turned out to be a bit of a eccentric. I wonder why they sold out.
