Hello All,
As I’m nearing putting my P5b Coupe’ back on the road soon, I just wondered if any of you fine people can recommend which type of inertia-reel seatbelts I can fit in the rear of the car please?
I’ve been thinking along the lines of MGB etc, as not only are MGB seatbelts mounted on the ‘flat’ (as they would be on a P5’s rear shelf) but the belts are also mounted a long way behind the driver in an MGB, so would have plenty of belt spare, and so would easily allow for both the extra thickness of the Rovers seats and the cherubs booster-seats too...
I don’t know if anyone can advise me for definite though?...but any advice would be gratefully received!
Kindest Regards, Guy.

A few years back there was an excellent article on fitting rear seat belts. Far more important was making custom fixing frames to provide a secure mount that will withstand a significant accident. Unless of course you are lucky, and your car already has mounting points.

Guy, There is more material if you search for seat belts on this forum. The last/best I can find is Securon, see the link below:- www.securon.co.uk/fitting/extras/254fitting.htmI have static rear belts, I have considered for some time fitting the retracting type but have a little concern in them wearing the top of the rear back-rest. Cheers Ray

This company is a retailer and made Securicon restrainers. When seat belts became required for PSVs Securicon got greedy to make 100s of identical products and cut out the dealer network. However www.fdts-seatbelts.co.uk/ continue to design and produce similar products to a high standard and they have drawings available for Rover P5s I found them to be very helpful.

I also would recommend Quickfit. Good product in my experience. They do modern as well as period style belts. Installed static belts in period style in the rear years ago, grey with chrome buckles, leaving the front standard Irvin ones in place. They make inertia period style as well I see, but I don't know if that includes rear ones. See also the Rover gallery page. Regards, Benedict

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your replies - their very much appreciated!
I’m lucky in so far as my car already has the rear mountings factory fitted, as it’s a really late build car...I’ve WD-40’d and run a bolt through them to make sure their clean and ready to fit the belts too, so I should be good to go...
I’m fitting new front belts - just for safety’s sake, and plan to fit new rear belts too, as I tend to use my cars quite a lot...
I’ll let you know how I get on!
Regards,
Guy.
